User ID (w number) & Password
Q: What is my User ID?
A: Your user ID is also known as your student ID or "w" number, and it allows you to sign in to PiratesNet and/or connectColumbia. You will receive your User ID via your personal e-mail, once your MJC/Columbia College Application has been processed and approved.
Q: What is my Password?
A: By default, your temporary password is your six-digit birthday (mmddyy). After the initial login, you will be asked to create a new password. Your new password has to be between six to nine characters in length, and it must contain both letters and numbers. Your six-digit birthday temporary password is only good for the initial login, "First time only".
Note: you have only sixty seconds to create a new password. If the system does not take your password, you must refresh the page and restart the process.
Q: I forgot my User ID. How do I retrieve it?
A: In order to retrieve your User ID, click the "What is My User ID" link on the Main Menu of PiratesNet/connectColumbia home page and fill out either the top portion of the form or the bottom portion of the form and click submit. The system will display your User ID, which you can use to login.
Q: How do I retrieve my Password hint?
A: Click on the “Login” tab, type your User ID, click the check box next to “Hint”, then click “Submit”. If you included a password hint when you created your account, the system will display the hint (in red) at the top of the “Login” page. If you do not have a “Password Hint” on file, you can reset you password.
Q: How do I reset my password?
A: On PiratesNet/connectColumbia home page, click on “Password Reset”, found on the upper right corner. Fill out the necessary information (Last Name, SSN or ID Number), and click the Submit button. This process will allow you to retrieve your temporary password by e-mailing it to your Student or your personal E-mail. If you do not have access to your e-mail(s), you can contact the HelpDesk at (209)575-7900 for further assistance.
Note: if you choose to retrieve your password using your ID Number instead of your SSN, leave out the leading "w". However, include the leading "w" when trying to log in. Also, the Helpdesk does not reset any passwords over the phone. A valid photo ID is required in order to do your password reset in our offices.
Q: My information on PiratesNet/connectColumbia is outdated and I live out of town and cannot come to your college to reset my password. What do I do?
A: If you cannot come to the college in person, you can call us at 209-575-7900.
